Our Story: Independent Bagel Bakers in Worthing
It started in 2020 with one simple craving: a proper fresh bagel.
One craving, a lot of dough
We couldn't find many places making bagels from scratch, so we learned to make them ourselves.
The first batches went to friends, family and neighbours. They kept asking for more, and slowly that turned into a small local business. Since then we've baked for all sorts of customers, run bagel-making experience days and sold bagels online.
Today our focus is simple: the shop in Bath Place, Worthing. Fresh and filled bagels, coffee, pretzels, cakes and seasonal specials, served by people who care how they taste. We're a small local shop, not a chain, and the aim is to make proper bagels and do it well.
What we care about
Good ingredients
Organic, local and seasonal wherever we can, from suppliers who share our values.
Proper methods
Shaped by hand, boiled, then baked. That's how a bagel gets its chew and its shine.
Friendly service
A shop you can actually visit, with a friendly hello at the counter.
The bakery in Pulborough
Our bagels are made at our own bakery at The Old School, Stane Street, North Heath, Pulborough. It's a working bakery rather than a shop, so please come and see us in Worthing for your bagel fix.
Bagels with the planet in mind
Doing things with our planet in mind is at the heart of everything we do. Our five-point sustainability policy:
- Sustainable ingredients. Organic, local and seasonal as much as possible, to cut our carbon footprint and support local food systems.
- Less food waste. Careful stock management, creative use of surplus, and unsold bagels turned into bagel chips.
- Saving energy and resources. Efficient equipment, less packaging, and recycling and composting wherever possible.
- Always improving. We regularly review our practices so we keep moving in the right direction.
- Spreading the word. Sharing what we learn with our team and customers.
Powered by the sun
We secured £20,000 of funding for solar panels at our bakery, with support from Horsham District Council and HM Government. They power the bakery more sustainably and cut our carbon footprint, so every bagel does a little bit of good.
The panels also helped us open up our bakery to the community, with locals able to book time in the bakery and only pay for the equipment. Want to talk about it? Get in touch.
Proud members of Independent Worthing. Shopping local keeps the town interesting, and we're glad to be part of it.
